Jose Eduardo Silva-Penaherrera joined the Portland Housing studio in 2020. Born in Quito, Ecuador, he received a Bachelor in Architecture and Urban Design from Universidad Internacional SEK before attending the University of Oregon’s Master of Architecture program. Jose is excited to bring his self-ascribed “South American spice,” an outsider’s way of thinking, to the firm, and he brings optimism, humor, and joy to every project. Jose’s excitement for quality design stems from the enthusiasm to create and strives to keep his work grounded while also looking to the future. He hopes to contribute to the meaningful work we do to affect peoples’ lives, helping them find joy in the places that they live.

After design, his interests fall to carpentry and farming. Jose especially loves vaquitas (cows).
