This new 5-story, 65-unit affordable senior living project is being developed by the African American, faith-based Williams Chapel Baptist Church in Oakland, which owns the land for the planned development. The Reverend Dr. Kenneth Anderson, Senior Pastor, is committed to building affordable, low-income senior housing with a community center component as a gathering place for the neighborhood. Providing safe, affordable, and dignified housing for the growing senior Oakland population will help the community stay local and together.

SITE AND BUILDING DESIGN
MWA designed the new building on the Church’s existing parking lot site and is assisting Dr. Anderson in obtaining funding. The project includes a main lobby, mail area, support offices and services, community room, outdoor courtyard, computer lab, and residential and church parking. This project directly results from SB 35 and AB 1763 – streamlining the permitting timeline process and increasing density for this 100% affordable housing project.
The project will incorporate Title 24 energy reduction mandates and carbon-reducing features. The Green Point Rated system will be employed to reach the highest rating possible (platinum level aspiration) to track sustainability features such as solar panels, EV charging stations, energy-efficient envelope/fenestration, energy efficient mechanical, plumbing, electrical, unit fresh air ventilation and low water use planting.
