Designer Urmica Yelavarthy brings a passion for creating spaces that positively impact communities to her role in Infrastructure at MWA. She designs with a priority for serving people and fostering community connections. With a strong foundation in architecture and expertise in sustainable practices, she thrives on blending creativity, technical skill, and problem-solving to shape environments that are functional, inspiring, and inclusive.
Urmica has a Master’s degree from North Carolina State University, where she earned Public Interest Design and Energy+Technology certificates, showcasing her dedication to community-driven and energy-efficient architecture. Her portfolio features large-scale airport expansion projects, such as the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. She also holds a SEED certification, reinforcing her belief in design as a tool for addressing social, environmental, and economic challenges.
At MWA, Urmica focuses on healthy architecture, resilient infrastructure, and smart building technologies. As a LEED and WELL Accredited Professional, she integrates sustainable design principles and strategies to enhance user well-being. Fluent in four languages, she bridges cultural perspectives, bringing depth to her global design approach. Urmica is also deeply intrigued by the latest building technologies and eager to see how advancements, particularly in AI, will shape the future of architecture.
Outside of work, Urmica finds inspiration in both the built and natural environments. Hiking, cooking, and sketching in nature are among her favorite pastimes, as well as traveling to explore diverse places, cuisines, and cultural traditions.
