GEDC Family Housing Tower, 125 Mason Street

San Francisco, CA

Located in the middle of downtown San Francisco, this family housing building presents an inspiring vision and a new model for high-rise work-force housing: a vision of hope in a time of hope.

Despite its 260 units/acre density, generous units, comfortable common areas and pleasant courtyards provide badly needed but gracious homes for eighty-one families. The lively main façade represents the animated character of the non-profit co-sponsor through dancing bay windows, special finishes of deep orange resin panels and porcelain tile base and the public art which is created as a moving expression of words from a poem written by the church community.
